so I got a new part time job and when I was hired I was told I was PART TIME working a couple days a week. I've been there for a month now and have been working any where from 4-6 days a week, ON TOP of working a second job that they KNEW about before hiring me. I have worked my other job now for two years and this is my main job with insurance so I can't cut hours there. How do I ask them whats going on and if its going to change, as of right now they are NOT being flexable and not working with my other schedule with doesn't work for me!

Many companies talk about flexibility. What they mean is employees should be flexible and do what the boss says.

But actually, I think this is the case of your boss liking your work and giving you more hours than you want. If he didn't like you, your hours would be part-time.

Talk to your boss. Tell him that you can only work certain times. Be resolved in your attitude. Accept the fact that you could lose this job and you will have no worry about talking to your boss.

In most situations your boss will agree with what you ask. But either it is smooth and simple, or afterwards you find yourself being harrassed and given the worst hours to work.

There are other jobs out there, so don't worry too much and just be assertive not agressive.

That is, politely tell your boss what you need. Give an minimum explaination why. For example, "I appreciate all the extra work you have been giving me, but as you know, I work another job, so I can only work 2 days a week so I am hoping you can reduce my hours"

Try the direct approach and just talk to your boss. Always start with a positive so go in his office and tell him that you like working there but you can't keep up the current schedule. Make the point that you want to keep working for him but your other job pays your benefits and you can't lose that one.

If that doesn't work then try again wearing something lower cut.

Write down exactly what you need to say. Rehearse it so you don't leave out anything. Make it professional and not sound wishy washy. Explain when you applied it was for certain amount of time and that you need it to be just that time only. Tell them you need your schedule to be changed to reflect that change as soon as possible. It would also be an excellent idea to point out why they need to keep you. Sing your own praises so they will want to keep you even for part time. Do not show weakness. Most important, make an appointment to see you boss or your talk so you have all their attention, and be prepared.

Ask them anyhow don't matter what it look like. If you applied and was hired as part time. Then you need to tell them about it, doesn't matter how it looks or shape or form.

Well, I think they either work with you to schedule your work hours appropriately, or you have to quit. Maybe if you put it that way, they will be more inclined to do that. No one wants to lose a good employee.
