call a place that I mailed a resume to after about a week? I really want the job but feel like since they have not called me that they probably already filled the position.

In today's world, it seems that many resumes go unanswered and you wonder if they have been deposited in the waste basket. If you really want the job and have not heard back, I would make the call and see if the position is still unfilled. If it is still available, ask if you could make arrangements for a personal interview. If I were in the position of choosing a candidate for a job, and they displayed persistance in their effort to be seen, I would give them the opportunity. Go for it. If you fail, you know that you gave it your best effort. Good luck.

Definitely. If it's been a week and you haven't heard anything, then by all means. Just ask about the status of the position. It never hurts to ask unless you call constantly and act like a freak.

I would. There is a little risk, but I would only call once and would not take much of their time. It's a crap-shoot, really. Some people think that it's pushy... others think that it shows some initiative (over the thousands of people that spam-apply to online ads). Just be polite and thank them for their time.

It is a great idea. Be very, very polite to anyone you speak to. Have some questions about the job ready and some applicable highlights of your work experience ready just in case you get a chance to market yourself.
