If god knows everything then why did it take him 9 elections to get the present geriatiatric, anti-development idiot to get elected.

No matter what anyone says you need to read the Bible. That is the only way to discern truth from error. It has POWER! :-)

"For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account." Hebrews 4:12-13

How the Bible came to be..."Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit." 2 Peter 1:20-21

"so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it." Isaiah 55:11

"...Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned!" Galatians 1:7-8

You will find nothing in the Bible about the Pope being chosen by God. What might surprise you is what the Bible says who Jesus is and claimed to be. But like I said, no matter what anyone says, you can only know for certain by reading your Bible. If you do not have one I would be glad to buy you one. (This offer is especially for ciscowen) If it is more convenient, there is an online Bible you can read. Here is the link...
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?book_id=50&chapter=1&version=31

Feel free to email me. If you're having any trouble finding a verse on a topic I would be glad to help you find it...in the Bible.

I realize this will not settle well with MANY people. My response would be... "Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ." Galatians 1:10

I would never doubt God if I were you!

God guides the papal election and helps the cardinal to make the best decisions. This does not always mean that they will listen to his wishes or that they even understand his wishes.

The current Pope ,although he is not young, is very intelligent and is quite pro-development.He is one of the most educated Popes of the past 2 centuries. If you doubt this, read something he has written. There will never be a liberal Pope who changes all the 2000 years old teachings of the Catholic Church ow whatever you mean by "an anti-development". No Pope, this one or the next, will ever be pro-choice, pro gay marriage, allow female priests or change Catholic doctrine.

Pope Benedict XVI is exactly what the Catholic Church needs right now to continue the work that Jesus left behind for his Church.

Yes.

The cardinals pray for the guidence of the Holy Spirit before voting for the new pope.

A Papal Conclave works like this:

+ A pope dies and is buried

+ The cardinals come to Rome for the conclave that will elect the new pope. The word conclave (Latin, *** + clavis, literally, "locked with the key") designates:
. • The place in a locked section of the Vatican where the cardinals elect a new pope.
. • The actual gathering of the cardinals.

+ The conclave begins 15 to 20 days after the pope's death.

+ The cardinals pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit during a Mass

+ The cardinals, sealed in the Sistine Chapel, vote every morning and afternoon.

+ A two-thirds majority plus one is required for election for the first 30 ballots. After that, a simple majority is required.

+ After each vote, they burn the ballots and add special chemicals to make the smoke white or black.
. • Black smoke means no new pope yet.
. • White smoke announces the election of a new pope.

+ The cardinals may elect any baptized male they wish. There have been occasions in the past where they have elected a layman. After their election, the layman has to be ordained priest and bishop.

+ They ask the one elected if he accepts. The moment he accepts, he is pope.

+ The pope chooses his “Papal” name.

+ Then the new pope is announced to the world.

The Pope is elected by only those members of the College of Cardinals who are under 80 years old. They meet in conclave with much prayer. the fact that it took nine ballots means nothing. God's Holy Spirit was still present.

The Pope is chosen by the College of Cardinals who are led by the Holy Spirit in their decision. God promised the Holy Spirit would guide the Church. That doesn't mean every Pope will be perfect, but simply that he is the man God wants for the job at that particular time.

God chose Peter and the 12 Apostles for special missions even though they were sinners.

Every Pope has free will just like all of us and he can make good and bad decisions. However, no Pope in the entire history of the Church has ever taught heresy.

May God bless our Holy Father Benedict XVI and help him to be virtuous and courageous!

The pope was elected by the college of cardinals.
Some people are elected....the pope. Some people are appointed....bishops.
To find people who are anointed, you must look in other parts of Cristendom that still believe in anointment and in the validity of the prophets; there are quite a few prophets operating today.

No, he's elected by the College of Cardinals.
By the way, three seconds on Wikipedia would have saved you the trouble of asking this.

I don't think so.

The men locked in the room making the vote chose the next pope. They will tell you they pray for guidance and are inspired by God, but the truth as I see it is that it is a political appointment to a position in their church, by members of their church, for the members of their churches benefit.

Nothing more.

g-day!
