The BEST and chemical free way to get rid of head lice is with white conditioner, a lice comb and patience!!
At least every second night put heaps of conditioner in the hair and carefully comb through starting at the nape. The conditioner makes it easy to comb and sticks the little blighters legs together so they can't move!! Wipe the mix onto a white tissue - by using white you can see any nits (eggs) and lice.
Do this every second night until no more lice or nits are evident.
Wash the bedding and put into the sun to dry (or use a dryer on hot) - wash all combs and brushes in hot water.
** many lice are resistant to chemicals now and you may need several different types to kill them all - this conditioner method is now recommended by the Department of Health where I live. See the attached link ...
good luck!!

Cuprix, if it is still sold at the drug store. It would be over the counter. You also have to wash your sheets and pillow cases every other day to make sure that any eggs that have been laid are washed away before the nest generation of lice spring up. It will take you about a week because repeated applications of the Cuprix will be needed. Don't snuggle up to anybody in the meantime as lice can jump.

BUY RID-X......it works, and isn't that expensive.....home remedies do NOT work 100% and head lice breed quickly.
Don't forget to BOIL all linens and clothing, and vacuum everything with CLEAN bags several times. Or you'll just keep perpetuating the little buggers....by the way, head lice is just as common in rich communities as poor....they don't care

You can go through the hair and carefully remove all the lice and eggs with a fine tooth comb- launder everything the head was in contact with, and all bedding in very hot water. Your going to be working on this for a while-better off getting one of the store products and going about all of the above along with the pesticide shampoo. oh yeah- vacumn, and vacumn, and then vacumn again!!!

I heard covering the scalp in Vaseline and letting it sit overnight, than washing kills them...but I really think the Rid lice killer at the store is fairly inexpensive and works well!

i have never used this but they say anything where the lice can not breathe, like mayo, peanut butter, hair spray, ect...
the best thing to do is get the kit and wash everything such as bedding, stuff animals, ect... in hot water. if it can't be washed then put it in a black plastic trash bag for 14 days minuim. do not put yourself in the bag!!!
