Yes.

Religion is a concept created by man as a means of answering the questions of how and why we were created, providing a code of ethics, a means of creating hope in life, as well as speculations as to what happens after we die.

It may be impossible to prove, disprove, or end religious beliefs even given our ever expanding scentific knowledge. In the absence of religion, life would surely be different but it may be nearly impossible to a make a case of it being either "better" or "worse."

Religion is not a necessity for life nor an advantage for survival and therefore, life on earth without religion, though it would be quite different, would still go on.

Yes I think the world would function just as well if not better without religion.

The only possible way of this working would for a global government to be put in place, this government would have to illegalise all forms of religion in every country in the world. But there would still be problems people would protest against it, very violently I would Imagine, but in time I would say people would adapt.

Many people believe religion is what gives us our morals, but I think if the government and law is tough enough on treating people with respect and dignity there really shouldn't be a problem.

We are not held back by Religion because Christianity is all about goodness and being kind to each other. Is that so wrong? This world was made by God, we are just looking after it till Jesus comes back to us. If this world went it's own way without God then people would not be kind to each other. Or forgive those who trespass against us. That sort of world scares me and I do not want to live in it. The world was created in seven days by God and not by a Big Bang. It takes human eyes to create colour.

Yes, the world could also function without humans. We are the only species to question our origins. We look for answers. Humans are only one of many species in this world. Last time I checked animals could function in the wild. The question should be can we function.

In the long run, I agree.

However at the moment I think a great many people still need religion as an emotional crutch, largely because society is currently so flawed, so as a species we are not ready for this monumental leap in our intellectual evolution.

I strongly believe that one day we will free ourselves from the shackles of religion, and concentrate our efforts on something more worthwhile. Who knows what we'll be able to achieve then?

No, it can't. I think most people don't have the slightest clue what religion really means to the world. People stare themselves blind against what people from certain religions, usually lunatics or fundamentalists did in the past, and don't see the big picture.

I saved this on my computer a while ago because I am so sick of this type of question. I got it from Christian websites, about Christian activities all over the world:

1. Last year alone, CBN Partners:
provided medical treatment to over 785,000 people;
drilled clean, fresh water wells and cisterns for over 425,000 thirsty people;
ended the suffering of over 625 children through cleft palate surgery;
provided hundreds of thousands of meals;
paid the school tuition and gave supplies to thousands of young students.

2. Emmanuel Activity Centre (EAC)
COH runs a day activity centre called Emmanuel Activity Centre (EAC), serving people who have:
Down’s syndrome
Intellectual disabilities
Autism spectrum disorder
Cerebral palsy
Multiple disabilities

3. We operate across the spectrum of violent conflict: from displacement to repatriation, from rehabilitation to the re-development of conflict-damaged communities. CORD’s key sectors are education and livelihoods. Our work also addresses cross-cutting issues: child protection, gender violence, trauma, HIV/AIDS, environmental issues and forgiveness and reconciliation.

The thing is, Christians mostly try to do what Jesus said: not to let the one hand know what the other does, so their deeds often go unnoticed.

How much more advanced do we need to be ? Already we can travel through space but yet people in the world are still starving.
Religion is needed by some, mostly those who our technology has let down.

Unfortunately we need religion for the world to function.

If there was no religion there would be no afterlife. If there was no afterlife everybody would be running amok trying to grab as much as they could and enjoy themselves as much as they could in the short amount of time they have on earth.

The result would be chaos. That is why religion was invented in the first place. As a means to control the masses.
