My aunt told me that I should always let God decide. Put the bible on your lap , close your eyes, and open the book. Where ever it opens that is what he intended for you to read.

The first chapters of Genesis, Revelation, Luke, John, Mark, Matthew, all the books of the new testament. All the chapters of all the books are good but these are the best. Then there are the epistles, psalms, proverbs, exodus, etc. All of them are wonderful. Read the chapter on Peter as the first pope, when Jesus says , "You are Peter and upon this rock I shall build my church." Then read also the chapter where Jesus is on the cross and He gave us Mary as our mother. He says to Mary "Woman behold your son." and to John, He said "Son behold your Mother. "Then also the one where Jesus is in the Last Supper , when He says, "This is my Body" . Then also read the chapter on the prodigal son.

I like Psalm 22. Luke 22. Matthew 6. That is more than "a", I could go on for a while.
I get several chapters a day sent to my e-mail by www.bibleinayear.org. That way I read something either on my e-mail, my palm or in one of my Bibles every day. Sometimes I read all of them.

A Psalm a day is a wonderful source of peace and strength to prepare you for all that comes your way...
But I am deeply in love with Isaiah and Jeremiah.
It is as if the prophecies there were written in present day.
I am forever finding something in Isaiah that is relevant to how my life is progressing. I am forever finding encouragement in Jeremiah for my wounded heart.
I would suggest a good Study Bible - so on days of particular turmoil, you can search by subject.
Peace, precious!

It's not just one chapter, however, it won't take you very long and it is very helpful. It is Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, and it is recorded at Matthew chapters 5, 6 and 7. Ghandi recognized its value when he said to the Viceroy of England that if we followed Jesus' instructions found there they would have solved not just the problems of their countries but the whole world. It's good to be aware of our spiritual needs.
