Well, yeah, they're politicians. They'll promise anyone anything at any time to keep themselves in power. They aren't all that interested in any ideology other than using it to benefit themselves.
And that's all politicians, regardless of party. Anyone who buys into their nonsense is just kidding themselves.

Well, I am not only 'College educated,' but a College Teacher, and I assure you the claims of Christ appear to be VERY MUCH TRUE!.
Not to say most politicians have any sincerely held faith; I'm sure a few do, but most have faith only in money and power.
