The journey of life is one of progression, to go backwards, or to stagnate will only serve to self destroy, so no, it is not a way back to the beginning, that would never do, and that's exactly why we can' t travel back in time...time only goes forward, life grows forward. Ascension is a step of growing forward.
The fact of being born as a helpless baby and you grow all your life (yes you keep changing no matter how old you get)... should be one indicator this is true... progression ... that's it.

This is just my personal belief: Just as we do not remember our birth (painful as it was for both mama and child), we will not remember leaving this life for the next one. We don't remember anything about BEFORE this life, but, we are only given about 80 years here IF WE ARE LUCKY. Our leaving this life will not be a return to the beginning, but will be a new beginning. A beginning to a forever.

Yes we start as one to end as one : )
However on that Journey we learn lessons, enjoy the experiences Good & Bad for our personal growth of the Soul
We also gather information which is embedded in the Soul and never lost : )

A return to the beginning, we start to shrink, lose our marbles and become less able to do things in elder life - just like a baby/toddler!

Both sort of
It is one way that you will never be alive again.
Return to the beginning in the respect while I do not believe in reincarnation our energy is recycled to an extent.
