I live here and I can tell you your best way of getting noticed is by contacting a local agency (modeling) where you live, the studio people are looking for faces from everywhere esle but here. They use my street to film all the time and seems all the new faces are fresh from the midwest. Besides, most who come with that dream cant afford to stay here and end up working dead end jobs. Avg rent here is $1500 for a 2 bedroom my house that I bought 4 years ago is a 2 bedroom for $550,000
My advice is model locally, get into theatre, go to college, and model and act there if you are really good you'll get noticed.
PS we dont have small towns outside of LA they are big cities that all surround LA (Pasadena, Burbank, OC)

It seems like tons of people do that and you're chances of making it in those fields are so slim no matter what! You'd be so much better off going to college or learning a trade. Seriously, working three jobs as a server and hoping to break into acting/modeling will be so NOT CUTE in five or ten years. Think about it.

You're a stones throw away from the second best place to persue acting. NY obviously. Don't move across the country unless you have a reason to. You are very unlikely to make it anyway. Stay home. BTW NY is a much better place to hone your craft.

no... not a good idea..... we have enough homeless actors and actresses out here.
Seriously, you have to know someone to get into the business quickly. Develope a carreer skill and get a transfer out here making decent money. Then pursue it if it still interests you. If it was that easy to get into everyone would live here.

There are no small towns around Hollywood.
Don't come here unless you have a job skill, otherwise you won't be able to afford to live here.
