its not that much about what you eat as much as how much.
weight loss is all about calories in vs calories out. you can eat fruit and gain weight.
by the way - crackers are not that good.
find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio is the only fat burning exercise and burns fat all over your body (running, jogging, swimming, spinning, elliptical etc) 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), weight training a few days a week but never work on the same muscle group two days in a row (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

If it all adds up to 1200 calories a day then you're good to go. If it doesn't, then you're starving yourself and it just wont work. If your body figures out that it's not getting enough nutrition and thinks it's starving then it will slow down your body so you won't burn many calories and it will absorb every single calorie you eat to keep your fat supply steady so your body is working against you all the way. If you give it at least 1200 calories a day it will let you lose weight because it knows you are still eating and not starving yourself. So you need 1200 a day and exercise for about 30 minutes everyday as well. you'll get fit and be eating healthy too losing about 2 to 3 pounds week. A person might lose about 40 to 60 pounds in 5 months depending on other factors.

I've heard that eating six small meals a day is better than three larger ones, simply because it keeps you full all the time.
How much weight you lose depends on how much fat you have to burn, and how you're built. Not to mention current metabolism.
Also, if you don't normally excersice, don't jump into it for an hour or more a day all of a sudden. It's not good for your body, you need to ease into working out.
And it will be a lot harder if you aren't used to it. It's better to start at, say, 15 minutes of jump-roping a day than working out for an hour or so for three or four days then giving up because it's too hard and too time consuming.
And, as i said before, it's also about how you're built.
I'm built with a sporty kind of built, strong legs and arms. I could in exellent shape but i'll never have sticky little arms and legs, so if you're built differently than what your goal is shapewise you may be disappointed. I love my build and would never trade it for being a stick but others would disagree.
And you may replace the weight you lose with muscle, which weights more than fat does. It's healthier to go for being fit and healthy than to go for a number, because it's more important to be in shape than to weight say "110" as your goal.
Hope i've helped, and good luck to you.

something that worked for me.
Started with the Fad Diet ( Cabbage soup) lost 5 pounds in a week. also that diet curbed up my metabolism and I lost as lot of retained water from the sytem a great deal. i felt a lot of energy and the working out resulted much fun.
From than on, I just elliminated Carbs, ate a lot of veggies and fruit, some protein for the muscles and worked out 30-45 minutes every day in the evenings, and I took a vitamin pill too.
Since than, I lost 12 pounds and haven't gained any weight.
good luck. the best thing is common sense and discipline.

cut out the milk and you'll be good. reason being, milk has way too much fat in it. make sure the yogurt is low-fat. make sure to take a calcium pill.
