I understand what it means and all, but before I asked her she had said she liked me.. and if she likes me what is there to think about?

If she has to think about it then i would forget it! (personally) think about it if she was to ask you would you say the same? I think not.

maybe one of her friends liked you a while ago, or does like you now and she wants to see if it's okay with her friend.
it also depends on how she said it.
if she was smiling or really friendly when she said it, it's a definate possibility that she wants to go out with you
if she was the opposite, i wouldn't count on it.
