For a flight within the United States they're not "supposed" to check it. But common sense dictates that if you present a passport it's going to get checked, including the I-94.

What are you thinking?

If you are taking DOMESTIC flights, they aren't going to ask you for a passport!

If you are taking an INTERNATIONAL flight, then they will check your visa upon check-in. This is important, because if you arrived at another country without a visa, the airline can be heavily fined.

Visas are checked at the airport for validity and genuineness.
