Education is not fool proof, for instance when I was at school, we were taught many historical 'facts', only for them to be disproved many years later by newly discovered evidence. The same with medical and scientific discovery.

My point, despite any new evidence regarding religion, many people would still adhere to the old disproved knowledge. Even going to such lengths, as to suggest such folly as, it is the work of an evil force to deceive. This is not to claim that religion is false but the discernment of the essence of the truth that lies within.

Not so much a false sense of security as a false sense of importance. Education is fine ( my BA in Education -English concentration- is a work in progress), it's just that for some people, the more education they get, the more they experience a loss of common sense and character as well. Some "educated" people I've known are the most ignorant dumbasses I have ever met anywhere. Typically, they want the accolades of others to feed their immense egos, and I simply refuse to oblige the parasites.

Yes one begins to believe that their intelligence and what they know is all they need. They can become secure in their learning and stop thinking and thinking they have all the answers they need and that there is no more to learn. It can also give one a false sense of superiority, that somehow what they have learned ( which they believe will be unchanging) makes them somehow more important. Or that they are somehow better than those who have not had the same education. But such is the nature of man.

Oh sure. Doesn't the Bible talk about being foolishness to the wise? That means that there are people who are wise in the sense of reasoning and in the sense of the world and they trust this wisdom and cannot really see God. I was like that when I was an atheist. I was secure in my wisdom but it was false security because I things happened to me that my wisdom didn't help with.

It does me, I'm highly educated, and my sense of security is just as highly false.

I feel so secure it's almost uncanny, but it is a false sense. I don't know what that is, but my education has given me such a false sense of security, it is really odd but I never talk about it in real life -- am I boring you?

I'll tell you this much though, my false sense of securtiy is falser even that church folks' false sense of holiness.
Oh what the hell, who gives a crap.

It depends on what you mean.

Are you referring to a sense of security regarding spiritual matters? A person's religious/spiritual beliefs are informed by their faith or lack thereof. It is my personal opinion that the higher a person's level of education, the less dependence--in general--that there is on the validating palliative provided by religious faith. For many people, faith is a compensating value, but this obviously is not true in all instances.

I am glad that I have a good education and relate to the world through its prism: I know of no other way to relate. This is not to say, however, that my life is less secure than a person who has great faith in religious belief, and the opposite also applies, of course.

Though seeking knowledge and wisdom is certainly commendable, from a biblical perspective:"Some are always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth"

Knowledge puffs up,when character is not equally,sought..Knowlege, in one of strong character is powerful and is an integral part of meekness(power under control)

Yes... sometimes it can... a little bit of "knowledge" can sometimes be a dangerous thing... that means an incomplete or inadequate education (any education that lacks critical thinking skills).

Without the ability to consider carefully *how* we know *what* we know... we repeat the blunders of history.

William - "That means that there are people who are wise in the sense of reasoning and in the sense of the world and they trust this wisdom and cannot really see God."

Excellent, so the bible actually encourages ignorance and stupidity, because with a bit of smarts, you cannot 'see' god.

Well that explains so much.
