I have a shiba inu, male four years old, and he has been neutered. The last two days, he has been trying to get out of the front door, which he never has done, and whines and even lays by the front door. Then he will run around in circles and then go lay on everyones bed in the house, which he never does either. He is fine when we let him in the fenced yard, he is eating and drinking and going to the bathroom, but he is just not himself. If he keeps doing this, we will take him to the vet. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? And no, we have no bad storms moving in.

He could be in pain, or sick.
Or, it might be a cat or another dog passing by the front door.

Whatever it is, your dog is in distress.
Finding out if it's in his mind or body is what you need to do.
Watch a little closer, and maybe you will have more clues when you take him to the vet. You need to do that to rule out pain and illness.

Good luck.

Perhaps there are wild animals running through your backyard. I know that we have neighborhood cats, and my dog whines at the door when they are in the near vicinity. It's possible that your dog just wants more exercise than usual. It sounds like he wants to go out, run around, play, and just be a dog. Take him outside to rough house and play around, and he should be happy. By all means, take him to the vet if you're worried. Better to be responsible and get it checked out.

Is someone who lives in the home, away for a few days, maybe off to college or on vacation? Or maybe a recent visitor that stayed a few days and he was getting attached to left and he misses them? It sounds like he is looking for someone and doesn't know where they are and keeps watching the door hoping they will come back.

the best thing to do is take him to the vet for an exam, there may be a medical problem, but then again maybe he is just bored and needs more exercise. maybe a new dog in the neighborhood?
