Ok... I know the obvious solution is to just not put clothes on her... which I am not. I just don't understand WHY. She is 2 years old, and I have been putting clothing on her occasionally all of her life. I generally only put clothes on her when it is a dress-up occasion (like a wedding) or if I think she is cold.

However, the past few times I have tried to put clothes on her, she has tried to bite me. =[ She is not a violent dog at all. She is very small (4.5lbs). Do you think putting clothes on her could be hurting her in some way? She only bites when I go to put her feet inside.

Since this is new and shes used to it, it could be hurting a joint when you try to thread her into the clothing. Small dogs do have joint problems. It could also indicate your bumping a sore spot. A vet check would be a good idea.

Maybe she doesn't like her new wardrobe (or has her own fashion sense lol). Perhaps she has grown or the newest clothes rub under her arms or restrict her movement. It could also be causing her to overheat by holding her own body heat in.

To those who say dogs have fur and don't get cold that is simply not true, short coat dogs are forced to endure harsh winters in a place where they would naturally never live by coat type. Dressing for fashion I don't do but to each his own. Dressing to protect from the elements just makes sense with some breeds in some enviroments.

The answer is very simple... and it's not because dogs don't like to wear clothes. The reason is either because there is some injury and you're hurting her, which you've probably already determined is not the case, or more likely, your dog does not see you as the leader; your dog is the leader of your pack and she is calling the shots.

I would recommend you learn how to make yourself the leader of your dog again; at 2 years old, there is plenty of time for the doggie to get even worse than she is now, and she'll exhibit worse and worse symptoms of being the leader in your little pack.

I highly recommend the Dog Whisperer on the National Geographic channel. I have a pretty snappy little chihuahua that I've made 100 times more safe and more obedient since following just a few of this guy's simple principles. I'm totally amazed at the changes.

You're probably bending her legs in painful ways. Toy breeds are very delicate, and they don't have the same range of motion that a toddler has. They aren't capable of wiggling around to fit into the clothes the way children can.

I would suggest finding coats that tie under the belly and around the chest, to avoid trying to tuck her feet into things. And just skip the t-shirts and similar clothes altogether.

LOL!

A better question is, Why do you think dogs need/want to wear clothes?

It's like you being fully dressed in jeans and a long sleeved shirt, then someone forcing you into another set of jeans and another long sleeved shirt. It's uncomfortable.

Puppies and young dogs tend to accept things like this better. They are inexperienced, accept change, and don't know yet that they can "say no". Older dogs become set in their ways, and form opinions, likes and dislikes, and learn they can boss us around a little.

The foot thing is common. You might find that she is less happy with nail trims. Handle her feet more, praise and treat her for letting you.

when you are putting the sleeves over your dogs paws and he tries to take a nip out of you, this is very obvious and has 2 reasons... the most likely cause is that when you are putting her feet throught the sleeves it irritates his feet, try putting on a woven cotton one with no snags or fluffyness, her nails and ruff pads on her feet may be getting snagged on the cloth, this can irritate her,

or she feels that she is big enough to stop treating her like a little baby.. this is very unlikely

hope this helps

Well as Lady M states this could be pain related since your dog is used to clothes. You should take her to the vet. Does she react in anyway to you touching her paws without clothing...just with your hands....if so you should try to check and make sure she doesn't have any burrs or other noticeable objects in or injuries to her paws/nails.

Because she really hates it - possibly it's the fact that you have to put her feet through things that's bugging her - like maybe the cloth bunches up in her armpits and causes discomfort. or thew act of you putting her foot through is bending her legs in a way that hurts.

Because she probably thinks you're crazy for putting them on her. Dogs rarely get cold, and they look cute enough without clothes.
