I don't think it's just the mixed breeds. It's the fact that many people don't realize how many animals are in shelters right now and will be euthinized because there aren't enough homes for all these animals. I'm not against breeding, but it needs to be done in a responsible manner. I made an appointment for my doing to get spayed when we were going to be back from vacation; however, when we took her on vacation with us- she got pregnant (the friend we were staying with said both of his dog's were fixed, but one was not). I don't think I was irresponsible considering I was told both male dogs were fixed; however, I can't help but feeling somewhat guilty by the fact that because my dog had puppies, many dogs in shelters did not get homes and were euthinized.

Anyways, the point is- people need to spay and neuter their pets and leave the breeding up to responsible breeders who have many years of experience. It frightens me reading questions on here that are "My dog is in labor-----what do I do?????" People need to have some common sense.

EDIT: What do homeless people have to do with dogs? You really need a life. I wasn't saying no one should breed- but many people who have no idea what they are doing breed and puppies die from their ignorance.
I'm for adopting animals from shelters so they will get a chance at life, but I'm not saying don't buy from breeders.
The fact is, the pet population is overpopulated because of irresponsible people. Animals need people to take care of them and there aren't enough homes for these animals. It's supply and demand.
I'm not against mutts what so ever- I own 2 of them proudly.
STOP turning my words into something else.

Only if we start euthanizing unwanted humans. You are comparing apples to oranges here. We are the guardians of all animals. We are the ones responsible for preventing their overpopulation and abuse. They are not capable of being responsible for themselves. Humans are. If this isn't obvious to you, I can't help you.

Vet Tech- Thanks.

Added for asker- IF the dogs bred are tested for any genetic problems possible in either breed, and IF there are pre-investigated homes, and IF they are sold on spay/neuter contract, and IF the breeder will accept their own puppies back for any reason at any time, even at 16 years old because the owner suddenly has to move, MAYBE I'd not feel as strongly, but the reality is people mixing breeds jsut to have puppies or make money do NOT give a $hit about ANY of these things, and there's still FOUR HUNDRED breeds worldwide. Certainly someone can find ONE they like, and can breed to improve upon without intentionally making mutts.

Personally, every single human being should have an IQ test, and those failing to meet the minimum should be castrated immediately. Gotta thin the herd of stupid people!

But on to your original question. For a general family pet owned by Joe or Jane Schmo, all cats and dogs should be spayed or neutered. Those owned by careful and conscientious breeders are totally different. HOWEVER, since there are FAR too many unwanted pets that are euthanized every year because stupid Joe and Jane didn't get their pets spayed or neutered, I DO NOT see the point of paying hundreds or thousands of dollars for a designer mutt.

people on here get mad when people talk about intentionally crossbreeding animals. its better to spay and neuter because then we r cutting down the population of animals. if there r too many animals in shelters already what do u think breeding does. u r comparing two different things here. people choose to have kids. dogs dont choose to get pregnant. u should spay and neuter ur animals because u should only breed to better the breed. not breed to make money. or breed to make puppies. people on here breed because they think they know what they r doing. if they dont know what they r doing then they shouldnt breed dogs. people dont ever think. people use animal's reproductive organs

NO, that's nto what I think they (we) are getting at.
It's just that there are WAY too many animals being killed each year. Every hour int he U.S., over 2,000 dogs are born, and over 3,500 cats, and as for humans, it's only about 415 people born.
which meens ever year over 17 million dogs, and over 30 million cats.
We should leave it to breeders, and breeders alone!
BEcause, 15 million healthy, friendly dogs are killed each year by humane sociaties, and vet offices because of over population, every year.

Since October 27, 2002, here is how many KNOWN pets were Euthinised by only 10 different humane societies, because they didn't have a home,
20,257,908....
And studies say that if any one with out a breeder certifacate HAD to spay/ neuter the pets,
We could take the total down to 1, 600, 123...with in two years....Now do you get what we are saying?
Do you have a pet? if so, multiply it by 20, 257, 908, and then sit there and whatch it die that many times...how do you feel?
I knwo I would be in tears if I did that.

Obviously, you fail to read the arguments properly.

The issue is not the general existence of mixed breed dogs, it's the gross overpopulation of dogs in the world. While mixed breeds die by the millions in shelters every day, irresponsible morons are popping out MORE mixes and selling them for hundreds of dollars under stupid names. Explain to me how THAT is responsible. "Wow, a million dogs died in the US today... I bet I could go buy two random dogs and breed them and someone would buy the puppies! Who cares if that means six more homeless dogs won't get homes because people will buy MY mixes instead of adopting them." Yeah, that's a nice attitude. And that's exactly the attitude those 'breeders' have.

You, like so many others, are trying to turn a perfectly rational argument into this stupid idea that we're 'prejudiced' against mixed breed dogs. Mixed breeds make great pets too, but people don't need to be haphazardly breeding ANY dogs, purebred or mixed, when there's such an epidemic of homeless dogs already. Unless you are a USDA licensed, AKC registered breeder, who breeds only a litter every year or two when they find amazing, health checked, championed specimens to improve the breed's genetic pool by breeding, then you shouldn't be breeding ANY dogs. Backyard breeders are personally responsible for the deaths of homeless animals by their carelessness. Fine, so you have 6 homes lined up for your 6 mutts. Those 6 families COULD have adopted 6 mutts from a shelter and saved their lives. Instead, those 6 dogs just died because of YOU. Good job, you're now a murderer.

Maybe this time you'll read the REAL argument and stop trying to cause trouble. If people were popping out a kid every single year and putting it up for adoption just to get the money, or sitting on their fat backside collecting welfare checks, people would be just as angry about that, regardless of the race(s) of the parents.

I am not against "cross breeding" (but to me, a mutt is a mutt, even if it is a puggle or a labradoodle), but I am against indiscriminate breeding by owners that don't care and by puppy mills that are only out to try to make a buck. For those against spaying and neutering, spend some time volunteering at your local animal control, especially on the day(s) they euthanize all the unwanted dogs and cats.

people can make the decision about who they want to be with.... pets can not. it is up to us to see that the animals that we take on as pets are properly cared for. there is an over population in dog and cats and millions are put to sleep daily for lack of homes, many more die because of irresponsible owner that don't give proper care, like food, water, shelter and vet care. it is hard enough to find homes for the over abundance of pure breeds, because of puppy mills that sell to pet stores and flea markets. if you are truly a responsible owner you will spay and neuter your pet, pure breed or mixed.

Arrogance. You have to realize many of them sell their own "breed". Always look to motive. Money is a huge motive.

I personally don't care what you cross or breed as long as they are well cared for and loved. That is much more important than any genetics or characteristic or human idea of breed standard. Dog DNA is dog DNA. Not one is better than another in the cellular sense. Just pick one that fits your personality and life. Arguing one dog is better than another because of it's genes is like arguing one race of human is better than another. It's evil.

You should have heard them argue for human forced sterilization one day. Like that made them look smart?

If people want a mixed breed dog or puppy, they can go get one from the shelter that people stupid enough to let their dogs breed unwantedly, have let end up in the shelter, about to be killed. Let's start adopting the ones that will die tomorrow before we make the decision to let our dogs have puppies that will be born tomorrow. There are hundreds of thousands of unwanted MIXED BREEDS in shelters, being killed right this minute. Think about that before letting your dogs have puppies that will end up possibly being killed.
