the flu is the common man's term for your next-door seasonal viral infection that's usually self-limiting and harmless to healthy people with intact immune system but fatal to immuno-compromised individuals like patients undergoing chemotherapy, AIDS patients, the very young and the very old. Needless to say that it is caused by a bug classified as a virus.

While a "cold" is a sign/symptom that is part of the disease manifestation. Though in laymen's term it is as interchangeable with the flu. They're not really officially listed in the medical books but i'll try to explain as much as i can.

In some viral infections, the sign and symptoms usually start with a headache, sneezing, body malaise proceeded with a fever then in about 3 days, the fever subsides and most of the time the cold set in the middle of your illness or when you're convalescing. If you're not taking any cold meds, it will last for another week or so. Then you'll be fine.

Most viruses have only one or two subtypes so when we have a viral infection, we don't usually get them again like measles, german measles, though some undergo latent phase and will be reactivated like Herpes and chicken pox. Our body has cells that can remember the "photos' of the viruses so when these same viruses attack for the second time, our bodies knew what they look like and are ready to fight back.

however, there are several viral subtypes in cold/flu, so even if we got subtype #1, there are still subtypes# 2,3,4,5,6,etc. Thus, our bodies are not equipped to contain these crooks at one time. that's why the occasional cold/flu in the span of our lifetime.

Do you mean sneezing, coughing, runny nose=cold and vomiting, diahrea=flu? Either way, yes because your defenses (immune system) are down.

This isn't an endorsement for any other motive than tell you what's worked for me for a cold... The second I recognize a symtom I take Airborne. I mean the very moment, not one hour later, two hours later, the very moment. AND I take another as near to every 4 hours that I can.

It works for me. Hope it helps you to.
