Like any foreign language, you will need to invest a significant amount of time and effort to master it. To achieve a level of proficiency on par with a native speaker could take several years of intense study, preferably in an immersion environment.

As a Semitic language, Hebrew uses an entirely different alphabet, which is written from right to left.

Start with learning the letters, recognizing them and being able to write/type them. Learn the nekudot (vowel points) and then you can begin with basic instruction books like "Ha Yesod".

I speak a very little. I'd also love to be able to speak conversational Hebrew. You can take an intensive course and be fairly proficient in a few months. Why learn Hebrew? You need to have your own reasons.
