I have noticed that aussie sheperds seem to do well, any other breeds? I know sometimes a lot depends on the individual dog, and his/ her personality. I have a black lab and as loyal as he is, I could never trust him off leash.

I think it depends more on individual personalities than breed.

The first on my list for best off leash behavior are Labradors, but as you said, you have one you don't trust off leash.
Retrievers and spaniels tend to be good off leash.

NEVER let a Husky or Malamute off leash. They're known for not coming back.
Terriers too. Some of them get stubborn! LOL!

i think it ultimately depends on the individual dog and sometimes training.
i had a retriver cocker spaniel mix who i could never trust of the leash she would run off and smile at you and keeep running.
i now have a brittany spaniel and he is great off leash (if im in my neighborhood) he will run around and then always come back after a couple minutes he is also fine to let of the leash when playing a game such as fetch. i trained him to do this by always having a treat for him whenever i called his name and he came back i would give him a treat.
