me and my friends went to a park and had an innocent bonfire/picnic. at dark when no one was around my stupid freind went and did donuts in a baseball field by our picnic site. someone called the cops in the park. i was stupid and went and did one donut in the field too. i dont know why i did it, i was so stupid. i saw the cops and floored it out of the field but they saw me. they pulled me over and gave me a ticket for careless driving. i told my mom that i just drove over the field, so she wants to take it to court so i can maybe get off on the points. im afraid the cop will show up to court and say i was doing donuts. do the cops usually show up when you take a ticket to court?

Yes. Not only is it policy, but it's OVERTIME.

It depends on the nature of the offense. Cops don't always show up, especially for minor traffic offenses, but your case seems like the type that would be worth the officer's time.

Remember, cops make overtime pay for going to court and not having to do much work so there is incentive for them to show up at your case.

Considering the facts you presented, and perhaps your clean record if you've got one, you could go to court and plead "no contest" and explain to the judge that you weren't a part of the recklessness, but it may be hard to prove that you weren't being careless when you "floored it" out of the field.

Fortunately for you--no.
Unless you were doing some serious speeding 10-15 miles over or more. In which case you'd probably be in jail anyway. But a 70 on the freeway or a 40 in a 35--not likely.
That usually works to your advantage because it's easier to get the ticket thrown out that way.
Cops don't have the time to show up to court for every person they write tix for. Unless you really pissed the cop off and he wants to stick it to you he probably won't go out of his way to show up.

Just know that because you don't have a ticket doesn't mean you don't owe money. You could end up owing more in court cost that the ticket. And if the ticket isn't thrown out then you owe court cost and the ticket. BTW-court cost even if you never get in front of a judge (which you probably won't) will run you $150-$300. Good luck

I think you should tell the truth to your mom and to answer the question, most of the time they do show up..depends on the officer and his case load. You will likely get a fine and points against your liscense anyway so why fight it if you know you were wrong?.If you dont want to tell your mom just tell her you dont want the hassle of going back and forth to court and just pay the ticket.Good luck.

The cop shows up a vast majority of the time. Your mom will go a lot easier on you if you to fess up to her now rather than cause her the embarrassment of finding out in a courtroom full of people that you lied to her.

YES, we are required to show up. Whats the point of writing a ticket if we aren't going to come to court and testify?

mine didn't, but i wasn't fighting the ticket. why don't you tell your mom the truth because if the officer does show up, you'll compound your problem further by lying in court.
