You have at least one good point. I'm an atheist, and I'm guilty of making jokes when someone asks a serious question about religion. In my defense, if an atheist asks a serious question about atheism or the theory of evolution, s/he tends to get a lot of snide remarks from Christians. If we answer with a serious critique of religious belief, we get a lot of negative feedback. Sometimes, you've just gotta leave a smart remark. Frankly, none of that bothers me. I like the debate, or I wouldn't come to Yahoo Answers. You might try ignoring the jokes and derisive comments. That's what most of the atheists do. However, segregating atheists is a terrible idea. So you're saying Christians could come and harangue atheists for their views, but atheists couldn't do the reverse. That's not very democratic. But you have a point, perhaps we could all try to be more sympathetic to each other.

What? Creating an 'atheist' section would be like a 'non-religious' section. Therefore, it would be the equivalent of a 'non-cats' section, or a 'non-wrestling' section. In other words, EVERY section is appropriate for atheists. The only prerequisite for discussing religion and spirituality is holding an OPINION on it. This forum is for answering questions from anybody, ABOUT religion, not converting people. Can humans use the 'cats' section? Of course. Is the wrestling section only for wrestlers? Of course not. Is the religion section only for religious people? That's ridiculous.

Im not sure if that would work. Atheists dont tend to ask questions. If they question their atheism then they would ask the usual questions in the other religion areas. If they are devout atheists (as fanatical as any other fanatic) then they tend to hang out in other peoples religions.
So Im not sure that an atheist section would help much.

In spite of the way you think things should be, all categories in Y!A are open to everyone. I know you would be happier if people who happen to disagree with you were banned from a category that you feel belongs you and the rest of the Fundies. Unfortunately for you, that is not how it works. Atheists are free to come here and voice their opinions with regard to religious topics. If you are unhappy that they "make fun" of your "religions", have a talk with your pastor, and maybe you will feel better.

This isn't a section for religious people to ask questions. It's a section for ANYONE to ask questions ABOUT religion. That's why there are atheists here, which means that there is no point in creating an atheist section.
P.S. your religions DESERVE to be made fun of.

It would be better if we had a section for Christians. This is a section for anyone that believes anything. They are supposed to be here, but we, as Christians, are a small portion of the people the site was made to accommodate. We should ask for a Christian section -- by all means.

Another sad pseudo Christian that does not understand!!
Atheists do not believe in a god - any god not just your god. They therefore have no interest in a god or any religion that has one.
They do however respond to postings as naive as this one!!!
If their was an atheist section it would be full of pseudo Christians attacking them!!!
Of course they would be safe from good Christians - the ones with firm faith - the ones who believe in a loving, inclusive and forgiving God.
Who knows - you might discover him one day and stop bringing ridicule down on those who follow Christianity!!!

I believe atheism to be a form of spirituality. The belief in a deity is not required.
People who take delight or indulge in the ridicule or harrassment of those who follow other beliefs come from all religions, though some less than others.
Many require this activity to reassure themselves of their belief that it is somehow superior, but they fail to understand that the only one who can truly validate a belief is the self.
Subjugation validates no one, yet the playground mentality of superiority by numbers is rampant.

There are two categories of questions from atheists, directed at "theists". The first are simply childish rantings and are pointless. The second are challenging theists to think about their beliefs and their assumptions. I hope that you don't consider that "making fun of your religion".
