You won't get in any trouble, however, it sounds as if you have a serious problem with alcohol and perhaps underlying psychological issues. I do not mean this as an insult; in fact, it's nothing to be ashamed of.

I do highly encourage that you reach out for professional help with the problems that you are having; that kind of help is available through the VA.

Good luck!!!!!!! :)

No you;re not going to get into trouble if the VA finds out your an alcoholic. If they do find out they may try to help you. There are various programs you can go to for drug abuse and alcoholism. But that is entirely up to you if you want to go to those programs.

If you are having to go to the ER repeatedly because of drinking as you stated, I suggest you ask them to get you into a treatment program.

The VA cannot punish you for drinking. You see, I have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and many people with that disorder, myself included, develop serious drinking problems. I had to pull my head out of the water and seek help for my problems and was not met with harsh criticism or threats of punishment. It's better for you overall if you seek treatment for your problems rather than letting them build up. If you keep drinking to get ride of any kind of problems you are experiencing, it becomes a problem, and it sometimes becomes and unconscious action. They have counselors who are there to help you work through your problems and better yourself. Trust me, you're not the only one who has dealt with problems like that. I used to drink a fifth of whiskey every night just to keep from having nightmares. You just have to get over the fear of stigma and seek help. It shows a lot of courage, determination, and self-respect when you do seek treatment for your problems. Trust me. It helps.
