IF you have XP Pro, then Media Center is not any better from an end user point of view. If you have Xp Home, then it will have features that Home will not; however these are security features that most end users will have no idea as to what they are or how to use them. Basically if you are happy with the XP that you have, stick with it. If not install Media Center. Just my advice to you.

I worked with these systems before Vista took over on the market, and the only thing Windows Media Center has that XP does not have is a software called Windows Media Center, which will manage your pictures, videos, TV card and the such. Other than that, it is the same thing all over again. The differences on system requirements is due to this software, which is the keystone to the system. If you already have a media manager, or feel comfortable with the way you do it now, Media Center will bring you no benefits at all.

1. The interface is slightly different, because one usually interacts differently with it than a normal PC.
2. Neither. MCE is based on XP, therefore they are no better or worse than each other.
3. Not necessarily. The minimum requirements for XP are a 233 Mhz processor and 64 MB of RAM (absolute bare minimum). The minimum requirements for MCE, according to Microsoft, are a 1.6 Ghz processor and 256 MB of RAM (again, probably a bare minimum). There are other requirements that I'll discuss next.
4. MCE is designed more for special types of hardware, such as a remote control receiver, a TV tuner, etc...If you do not have this equipment, then there is no point in installing it.
