The most influential were the Freemasons and they aren't tied to a particular religion. But most of the founding fathers were of one of the Protestant faiths.

The people on the mayflower;
they weren't very bright. They didn't take any agricultural equiptment to the new world, They found room for sundials and candle snuffers,a drum, a trumpet, and a complete history of Turkey. One William Mullins packed 126 pairs of shoes and thirteen pairs of boots. Yet they failed to bring a single cow or horse, plow or fishing line. Among the professions represented on the Mayflower's manifest were two tailors, a printer, several merchants, a silk worker, a shopkeeper, and a hatter--occupations whose indispensability is not immediately evident when one thinks of surviving in a hostile environment.

The Protestant work ethic, or sometimes called the Puritan work ethic, is a Calvinist value emphasizing the necessity of constant labor in a person's calling as a sign of personal salvation. Protestants beginning with Martin Luther had reconceptualised work as a duty in the world for the benefit of the individual and society as a whole. The Catholic idea of good works was transformed into an obligation to work diligently as a sign of grace.

Well, America was formed by citizens of England who wanted Religious FREEDOM. So, it was formed under God, but they practiced, or tryed to, religious tolerance. Also, the Protestant church played a major role because they were what most of the first pilgrims practiced. And I believe the Quakers had a bit of an impact.

Christianity although more specifically young protestantism, which was needed a safe place to grow. They were European(other than that, what do you mean "what type"?). And protestant ethic is more specifically called protestant work ethic. I think a bible verse sums it up pretty well. "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might." They were hard workers who tried to be productive and responsible.

Even though so many authors of the US constitution were christian, they were cautious about the division between church and state.

The "Protestant ethic" is a much later construct.

None. Read the text of the original documents from the formation of the USA and it will clearly state that it was not formed for or by any one religion.

The pilgrims, if that's who you are talking about, were protestants who refused to be combined with the Anglican Church of England. The reason they had was that the king of england altered some church rules, and they felt it was a heresy (which it was)
