Alli is a complete waste of money. If anyone ever read the warnings or the info on their web site, nobody would take the stuff.
The reality is, in the manufacturer's own tests before they released the product, people who took Alli lost less than 1 lb a month more over the course of 12 months than people taking a placebo. You should just find out what the placebo was and go with that.
You can read more about Alli and all its wonderful side effects here:

The only proven way to lose fat safely and permanently is by consistently following a sound nutrition plan (not a fad diet) and a comprehensive fitness program. There are plenty of great programs you can follow that will give you real results and cost less than Alli. Check some out here:

I saw a recent study showing that people who took Alli only lost a few more pounds than those people who followed a sensible diet and exercised. The people who took Alli were also more likely to re-gain the weight.
The most sensible way to lose weight is to make your food decisions based on the Glycemic Index (GI). This is not a fad diet. You eat from all the food groups so you get enough protein, fat, carbohydrates and fiber that your body needs. Low carb diets are dangerous because your brain needs carbohydrates not to mention they are high in fat. Low fat diets are difficult to stick to because there are so many foods you cannot eat so you feel deprived and all low fat foods are not low in calories (i.e. bagels).
There is nothing new about monitoring the GI of the foods you eat. It was originally developed to help people with diabetics maintain level blood sugar but it works to help people lose weight as well.
Each meal you have should consist of protein, fat, carbohydrates and fiber. An example of a healthy GI breakfast is scrambled eggs on whole grain toast. The eggs provide the protein, the milk in the scrambled eggs the fat (and calcium) and the whole grain toast provides the carbs and fiber you need. You can also eat some strawberries which will provide carbs and fibers.
A book good book on the GI solution to weight loss is The New Glucose Revolution by Dr. Jannie Brand-Miller and Dr. Thomas Wolever.

Sadly, we have not seen a great weight loss with this or its prescription precursor Xenical.
On paper it seems like it should be awesome - but in my patients - very few had great luck and most had no weight loss at all.
When they did the studies, they included a "sensible diet."
I can't help but wonder if that is why the studies showed improvement??

Swap a bowl of pasta for just a bowl of vegetables. You can conserve to 200 calories by reducing the starch and adding greens.

Its approved but has nasty side effects (farting, uncontrollable bowel movements) due to the unabsorbed fat passing through your colon.
The best way to lose weight remains diet and exercise.
