If you do not have information from scientific sources about both figures, please try to not to answer as there is much non-scientific propaganda, specially about Mohammad.

Thanks for the answers, but many have missed the main point.
An example answer who did not miss it: "Ancient prophecies foretold of the birth of Jesus Christ, His life on earth, His death and His resurrection. Jesus came and did what prohecies foretold He would do, centuries after these prophecies were made. The same cannot be said of Mohammad."
The problem with this answer however is: The same can be told about Mohammad. Prophecies, miracles, great services to human kind, etc. have been claimed and believed to a huge extent (about 1.5 billion muslims is a sign of the magnitude of belief in those claims despite much propaganda).
It came to my mind that maybe it's the media image of Mohammad which disturbs Christians (Muslims already believe in Jesus as prophet). But what about those Christans who have studied Islam and have remained Christian (anyone here?) ?

Even more clarification: think you don't believe in a religion and you come across Jesus and Mohammad and all the claims associated to them. What gives more weight to any of them compared to the other? The problem with the answer which says "Jesus said I am God" is Mohammad did as much as Jesus or more for humanity (here you may think he is God as Jesus) and then claimed that: "Jesus had never said I am God". Should we trust Mohammad as the real church (based on the mass of evidences which equals evidences for believing Jesus) or should we believe other famous churches who claim to continue the path of Jesus?

Final clarification !?!
Thanks, but one experience I have gained till now from the answers is how much limited our knowledge can be about someone as important as Mohammad. The situation is much more similar than you think, comparing Jesus and Mohammad. The latter has as much, if not more, miracles and pre-told prophecies associated with and there's much discussion about ancient books as well, for example the (presently non-official) versions of bible which mentions Mohammad directly and also mention Jesus as prophet of God (for example Gospel of Barnabas, which was accepted as a Canonical Gospel in the Churches of Alexandria till 325 C.E

Written records, written mainly by eyewitnesses during Jesus' lifetime, testify to his miracles, fulfilment of Hebrew scriptures, and his sayings. Those numerous written records were started shortly after his death and completed by about 70 years after it. There are huge numbers of ancient copies of the original manuscripts that are scientifically compared with our modern translations, showing hardly any variations.
Written records about Muhammed's sayings started to be written when Caliph 'Uthman ordered the oral accounts to be compiled. This began about 50-60 years after Muhammed's death in 632 A.D. 'Uthman controlled the whole exercise, ordering all other versions / copies to be burned. The last verse found (Surah At-Tauba 9:128-129) only one person knew it. In 1980 a German scholar collated a big manuscript find of the Qur'an (Suanna ah).
The Bible copies were more accurate because there was no individual to gather them all up and make wholesale changes. Individual Christians copied them at risk of their lives and tried to get copies out all over the place, despite the persecution. There was no radical editing. This is proven by the huge mass of very old manuscript copies found.
Both Jesus and Mohammed were historical characters and can be believed in equally, as such. But as for their respective claims and prophecies, it is significant that the Jesus of the Qur'an is NOT the same Jesus as depicted in the Bible. The differences in both accounts are so radical, it is not possible for both of them to be true. The Bible contains massively more verifiable facts about the person of Christ than the Qur'an does (indeed, in the mere 28 or so times he is mentioned, only once is there any historical setting.) Muslims, understandably, claim the N.T. we have is corrupt, but they cannot say when this corruption started to take place, or point to where the 'true gospel' records are. They simply say they have been lost. That strikes me as a bit of non-scientific propaganda. I don't buy it.

Jesus was not a liar Mohammad was, it is simple as that. Gabriel never appeared to Mohammad and taught him that He was the one that was right and to kill anyone that did not believe hiss words. Besides Mohammad was a Military man who used the Bedouin Moon God and some teachings of the Roman Catholic cult to make his religion. Jesus was foretold in the Scriptures, he was the incarnation of God not just a dreamed up thing to get people to let Mohammad have sex with children. He was 50+ yers old and having sex with aa 9 year old girl. Most would call that a CRIME and at the very least against Nature. He was the ultimate "Dirty Old Man" and not someone I woudl think worth following.

To be honest, scientists really don't believe in God/a higher power, so it is hard to give you any scientific facts. The Bible says that there is only ONE GOD and Jesus was the son of God, not Buddah, not Allah, not Jim Jones etc. Jesus walked this earth and healed people and performed many many miracles. Scripture (the Old Testament) foretells of His life and death, and as a Christian I fully believe the word of God (The Bible). When we all die we will have to face God and be judged. We will have to account for our lives and decisions, and for one I really don't want to thumb my nose at God by thinking there is someone else 'higher' out there. People are so ready to find a religion that 'fits' their lifestyle. Being a Christian is hard work, but the rewards are waiting for me not only in Heaven but on this earth as well as I serve the one and only true God, who's son is Jesus Christ.
Before you all *bash* me as a brainwashed fundie, let me tell you this: I grew up in an agnostic house, was a pagan for 20 years and THEN was introduced to Christianity, so it's not like this is the only way I knew. I have followed many paths and I am so happy I have found the one true way.

I believe Jesus was who he said he was... God. He never claimed anything different. He also let others call him that, never correcting them. What he did here on earth confirmed he was God.
Mohammad did exist but I don't follow a man. There is a great big difference between the two. If Jesus was God, then Mohammad should worship Jesus, not the other way around.

There is also one important point you are missing...and it may be the most important of points.
Christianity....the coming of Jesus is not based upon human understanding, so you if you do not want to understand it, then you shouldn't try to wrap your brain around it so you can understand it...
But what i propose that you do is...Ask God, and i am assuming that you do indeed believe in a God.
Has anyone ever tried to ask God and to show them the facts about whether Jesus or Mohammad is in fact the way to his Heavenly Kingdom, which is in heaven and not on earth...therefore adding the spiritual element which we cannot fully understand.

Because Jesus called himself the Alpha and the Omega -- the Beginning and the End. None came before him and none were to come after him. All has been accomplished....salvation is at hand. There is no more prophecy.
The entire Scriptures are a written testimony of our salvation history. Mohammad (bpuh) adds nothing to our salvation. Nor does anyone else.
"It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End" (REV 21:6).
There is nothing more to be revealed. However, the Holy Spirit clarifies for us.
"But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you" (JN 14:26).
"I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come" (JN 16:12-13).

the simplest way i can put it, is that i have never been taught about mohammad - i dont even know who he/she/it is although im quite sure hes a he. i was born into the apostolic church and thats how its always been. many parents teach their children what they believe, and then children teach their children what was passed down to them - just for the simple fact that you wouldnt want your child believing in paganism or judaism, or satanic worship you teach them what you know. another reason christians do not believe in mohammad is because most are true to the God that they serve, you cannot serve two gods. according to the ten commandments "thou shalt serve no other gods before me". Simple If you have been taught jesus is the way the truth and the life and that no man cometh to the father except by him - then believing in mohammad is a direct violation of the commandment "thou shalt have no other gods before me" if in your opinion both mohammad and Jesus have scientific propaganda why do you serve one and not the other ?? because thats not what you were taught !!!! see ?! its almost a self explanitory question. but my brother wether youve read the koran or the tora, the bible or the dead sea scrolls, i want to challenge you to ask God for a sign that lets you know he is real ask him to come into your heart, ask him to send you a christian friend or whatever you can think of - but you must believe or there will be no sign. and i also want you to ask Mohammd for a sign - The creator of heaven and earth is bound to show himself in all his glory. i thank you for asking this question cuz it gave me a chance to see your perspective. ♥ Ruth

the problem maybe because Jesus with the Bible and Mohammad with the Quran. Jesus came before Mohammad. who ever study Bible believes in Christians and who study Quran believes in Islam. what ever it is, the two holy man cames from the "roots" of the first man in the world i.e. Adam and both of them teaches us to believes in God.

Muhammad didn't live a sin free life and offer it up as a sacrifice for my sins on a cross. Jesus said that He was the way, the truth, and the life and that no one could come to the Father apart from Him.
So while I believe that Mohammad was a religious man who lived on this earth in the past, there is no reason for me to put my trust in him for my salvation like I trust in Jesus who came down from Heaven to offer his life as a ransom for all who would believe on his finished work on the cross on their behalf.
When you stand before God on judgment day, you will either stand there trying to be justified because of your own good works that don't make up for the times when you have broken God's laws or you will stand there saying
"Thank you Lord that you loved me so much that you paid the penalty for my sins for me so that I could remain with you forever and not have to suffer for the times when I broke your laws".
