I've got a rat who, after being in the cage with two others, is always stressed and un-happy. But when I put her in another cage to be by herself, she perks up. I'm not sure why, but do you think it's possible the rat prefers to be by itself? Or just does not like the other rats?

They aren't the ones picking on her, it's her picking on them. They just don't seem to get along. I'll probably put her in her own cage if she doesn't calm down.

I've had quite a few solo rats, including my oldest current one that hates her new cagemates. She prefers my company or being alone to that of these new girls. Just make sure you spend some good quality time with her and she'll be just fine in a cage by herself.

Rats have individual personalities just like everyone else but the majority of rats are much happier when they can interact with other rats. While it is *possible* that your girl wants to be by herself, it's more likely that she simply doesn't get along with your other rats. Have you noticed them picking on her?
If she's happier by herself, I'd keep her in a separate cage but close to the other rats unless just being *near* them causes stress for her. Give her lots of extra attention. Maybe she just needs a little 'break' from the others, so you might want to try again & see if they get along better in a couple days.
Good luck!

They tend to be more solitary creatures....if she is happy alone, if the other two are happy together...keep them that way....she might only prefer your company. I have two rats and me and my kids were their only buddies.....
