It doesn't hurt them or anything. It also does NOT show bad parenting skills in my opinion. In todays' world we are all so etremly busy that you have to do the micro meal every now and then. I think that as long as it wasn't junk, and the kids ate it that it was fine to do. When I was in high school I helped my sister out by taking care of her two little ones and if I had a lot of homework or my mom wasn't home to help me with dinner I would do spaghettios or ramen noodles and the 3 of us would share. It didn't hurt them any they are both really tall, really active and really smart for their ages. I wouldn't worry about it so much.

I work full time and I am single parent, often I don't get home before 6pm. I am then faced with a mountain of washing, ironing, dishes to do, bins to empty....the last thing i want to do is spend ages cooking a gourmet meal that my seven year old will either wolf down in three bites before rushing out the door to play, or push around a plate and reject.
Yes, I am guilty of giving my son the odd ready meal on a bad day. Now take me to the gallows and have me hung drawn and quartered for committing such a negligent act.
NOT!!!
He has a healthy two course meal at lunch time, I do my best to make sure he drinks lots of water and the recommended five pieces of fruit a day. I don't think the odd dish of processed crap will do any harm in the long run.

Hello dear,
I can see the concern of a mother for her children.
In today's world microwave is part of life.
Once in a while it should not be considered bad
as long as it is not made a very often practice.
The most important point to be considered is that,
instead of using the plastic microwavable containers,
you should try to use the glass or ceramic microwavable
containers, because the plastic ones may emit some
plastic particles in the food which you cannot see and
which are harmful for our body, as these may cause
cancer in the longer run.
Good luck friend.

I used to, its okay every once in a while. Now if I dont feel like cooking a big meal or we get home late, I just make something quick..like grilled cheese and tomato soup, or eggs and toast etc. (breakfast for dinner), or even mac and cheese with hot dogs. Dont feel bad, you do what you gotta do and not every mom can cook a well balanced meal from scratch 7 nights a week...every week

I cook all my dinners at the start of the month, actually, but I'm not averse to the occasional take and bake pizza. So long as it's not nightly and you can get fresh fruit and vegetables into their diets, it's a great break! I've been known to freeze casseroles in muffin pans to make lunch servings sometimes, so I guess I'm doing the same thing, just with homemade food. (I line the pan, then pop out the lined casserole and put it, frozen, into a baggie of like food. So we have 8 mini servings of chicken casserole or lasagne, etc.) My husband works nights and our daughters live days, so it's one way to be careful everyone gets fresh homemade food.

You do what you have to, I don't think you did them any lasting harm!

I have. I don't do it all the time but sometimes you just don't have th time to make a full meal. Things do come up unexpectedly. Plus every once and a while the kids get a kick out of it. They always beg for TV Dinners! Most of the time the answer is no!

Oh, relax. You're allowed to do it occassionally, so don't worry about it. I guess that you make sure they have healthy well balanced meals all the time, from what you have said, so one microwave meal is unlikely to harm them.
I know that you're NOT the only to have ever done this, so don't get all worked up about it. It's better than letting them starve, isn't it?!

I do it every time I go grocery shopping. (I normally go once a month except for milk and bread and veggies) I always get home later than expected so its their once a month treat. though I'm not sure why they consider it a treat. The rest of the time I cook wholesome home cooked meals. but the occasional ready-made meal is not going to hurt them.

Yes I have done this and god didn't strike me down for it either!
I work too and have 3 kids, so occasionally I will say lets have this(usually a pasta type meal)
It won't do any real harm and you are not bad for doing this!!

there is no problem with a ready meal.... sometimes you just need a break just to relax... dont worry-- im sure the kids enjoyed it anyways since they didnt have to wait for you to cook- just the couple mins in the microwave.....
