Like most other people that work for a living and do so 24 Hrs. / day, every day, including holidays, police officers get work breaks during their shift at work. They are expected to respond to calls, when necessary, during those breaks or lunch periods.

Having been in that position for many years, I know first hand that when an officer goes in to a restaurant for a break, several things occure. It is unlikely that the officer can get waited on, receive his/her order and relax for the break period in the short amount of time allowed for the break. Then there is the always present "citizen" that wants to talk about some aspect of the officer's job, like why his third cousin twice removed on his mothers side, got a ticket or got arrested or didn't get a ticket or arrested. The officer just wants a quick break to relax before continuing his shift. If he/she is a coffee drinker, the coffee at donut shops is usually fresh, somethng that is not the case in most restaraunts depending on the time of day. Most police officers aren't in the donut shop eating a donut but some are and "so what?" Most other people consume a snack during their work day. A donut shop is a very convenient place to get out of a patrol car for a few minutes and then return to work. If the officer has to respond to a call during his/her break, the coffee or whatever is already paid for and they don't have to wait for a check and pay a bill.

One can say most of these things about other fast food business' like McDonalds and Burger King. Many police officer don't trust getting food they can't see being prepared when the preparer can see them. I personally know of a number of incidents where body fluids have been included in the order going out to a police officer by the "kitchen staff" and those are only the ones that got outed by fellow employees. At least in a donut shop, you can see from where your puchase came .

I know this isn't a direct answer to your question but I hope it will give you pause to think.

Don't know. We're only there because the Coffee's great and I don't have to deal with a snotty EMO in a place that charges three times as much.
