Sorry for a late answer, from what I understand, (rumor only) the main reason they make fun of the church is two fold. First, South Park is censored on cable in Utah. There is (or was) only one TV cable provider in Utah and it censored that show. So the Creators did a little retaliation, can't say I blame them and I'm Mormon. Second, some (not all) members of the church are very stiff and are, well, easy to make fun of. Even other members of our own church make movies poking fun at these people (ourselves). It is important to not that South P{ark tends to poke fun at all types of religion, sex, race, and any other taboo subject, but the LDS church does seem like a top one though. Personally I don't it find offensive; just a humoristic, and somewhat statistic view. Jospeh Smith with Ice vision, cool! And even they said we're the only ones going to heaven, punch and cookies anyone? LOL

I love South Park. My favorite character is Butters. Here is what they said in an interview...

Matt Stone: I was raised agnostic. There was no religion in my house.

Trey Parker: I was pretty much the same. My father tried to raise me Buddhist, as in Alan Watts Buddhism, which is Buddhism in a way.

Matt Stone: I didn’t even know I was Jewish until I was 16.

Trey Parker: I had to teach him the dreidel song.

Matt Stone: I’m not a very good Jew.

Trey Parker: Well, we grew up in Colorado. Colorado’s right next to Utah—you know, Mormon Central. My first girlfriend was Mormon.

Erm, no, Trey Parker and Matt Stone aren't Mormon... See the South Park episode in which they make fun of Mormonism for details. An artists views are almost invariably represented in their medium. In their case, the sentiment seems to be somewhere along the informally Christian/deistic/weak agnostic range.

EDIT: It seems Parker was raised Buddhist, and Stone agnostic.

Don't know much about the creators of South Park, but I love the cartoon. My favorite character is Kyle because he reminded me of me as a kid--nice, smart, loyal and willing to kick your *** if you push him too far.

Yes, they WERE mormon. They were excommunicated.
They talked about it on something before.
I had a few VHS's of south park and they talked on them between episodes.

Yes they were mormon...

I had always heard they were Catholic. I love South Park. I'm not sure who my favorite character is. I love them all.

No, you can go to wikipedia. One of the creators dated a Mormon girl which is why he has some knowledge of the LDS church. I know one of them is an atheist or agnostic while the other comes from an intereligous marriage.

I do not know biography of creators.

Yes, I enjoy the show.
Favorite Character - Chef, Jesus - of course, Satan, I really like how dead on the guest stars are. Feels like a cop out but I like all the characters.
Mainly I enjoy the stories, in their detail and messages.
