It's a baseball reference. Striking out is the most humiliating way of getting out in the game of baseball, but it happens to everyone. If you're afraid of that, you'll never play the game and experience some of its joys.
As a metaphor for life, you can take this in any number of directions.

That sounds very much like a reference to the American game of Baseball [Base Ball] as in, three strikes and you're out, etc.

I think it means, don't be afraid of trying new things because you're affraid of failing or not doing it right. for instance, you want to learn to ride a bike,but you are affraid you're gonna fall. sure, you'll fall a bunch of times, but the more you practice, the better you'll get and eventually you'll ride without falling.
