I brought my girlfriend over from colombia and we got married a couple of months ago. Our relationship is not working the way we wanted and I dont want to spend the rest of my life with someone that I dont love anymore. I applied for her green card already; however, immigration havent sent any notice yet. someone told me that if i get divorce i would get in trouble because immigration would think that our marriage was for citizenship purposes. I honestly dont believe him because I think everyone can make mistakes and our marriage was not for citizenship purposes. i know many people does get married for this purpose but that is no my case. I would like to ask a lawyer; but unfortunaly i cant afford one.
please help. If we get divorced she will go to colombia. what should i do? thanks in advance

If you are a US citizen you are not the one with the problem, she is.

Get a divorce, its just that simple. To start with in order for the Government to think you married her for the paper, you would be married over a year before it would raise any eyebrows. 2 months is a mistake over a year is for the paper.

Don't worry about it. Get it done and over with and move on. If she stays here it is on her my friend not you, your hands are clean.

Just get on with your own life.It will no longer be your problem.I think you should at least inform the immigration office if you get divorced,it is up to them from that time to do whatever they want. enjoy your life and don't worry about her. It wasn't real love if you were married such a short time.
My son was used to get a green card and it is not a good feeling. He knew her for several years and was still used.

Nothing will happen to you if you get a divorce. Just tell CIS the truth, "The relationship isn't working." She will be required to go back to Columbia.

this is true that you might be subject to some possible issues as they are very strict about marring for false reasons and this could appear to be one. i think there is a time limit so you may be stuck for awhile living with the consequences of your decision. sry.

but you should contact a lawyer to see what you rights are and what might happen. it will be less costly in the long run.

Get a divorce and then call the INS on her. They will give her a free ride back to Columbia.

You already know exactly what to do. Get the divorce. What ever happens after that happens.

Sad to say, but it is true. If you are in the process of her immigration status being fixed, she may have to go back to Colombia.
