Do not scrub if it is non-stick.

Either put a couple of table spoons of washing powder (any will do, but it has to be powder.) Half fill the pot with cold water, swirl around and bring to the boil and boil for say, 10 minutes.

Continue process until sorted. You could put your stainless steel cutlery in at the same time to bring back the shine.

Good luck with the inlaws, perhaps they will compliment you on the cutlery!

There are two good tricks to do this.

1.Put 1 cup of bleach and 2 cups of boiling water into pot and leave to soak for a couple of hours. Then clean as normal, and rinse well.

2. Soak overnight with 2/3 denture tablets and hot water. if still stubborn repeat.

When it first happens: I've heard, water and ice cubes.

Afterwards: lot of elbow grease. maybe sand blasting (what they do to take paint off of cars or car parts.)

Push it way to the back and don't use it if you don't have to

Good Luck

We left a pot of beans on to run to my mom's. She had supper ready. Forgot the beans were on. Smelled them before we got in the house. The pot never looked right again.

Biological washing powder or liquid, (quite a good amount and boiling water, let it stand until cold and then it should scrape off easily, if not you will have to leave the solution on overnight, but by morning, no matter how burned it is, it Will come off in a complete sheet. i know, i have done this many many times and saved, lots of pans using this method.

Use very hot or boiling water, comet and a green scrubbie. Before you scrub boil the comet water in the pot to help lift off the carbon.

Boil up some rhubarb in it. That should soften it. If it wasn't non-stick you might try scraping the softened residue off with a teaspoon. Don't be frightened by your mother in law, mine actually burnt hard boiled eggs!

the only way to get it off is boil the kettle and put some washing liquid up in it and let it soak. If this fails someone once told me to use bicorbanated soda to clean stubborn stains. Hope it helps

Soak (preferably overnight) in vinegar. The burnt food will then clean off easily.
