Off school for the holiday today I see?

Better coffee than at the gas stations that are open later or earlier.
Seriously, They need coffee like we all do and to get a break from the car.
Could you drive all night, patrolling, not just cruising around, but using your instincts and eyes to look for the "not normal" or suspicious activity going on.
Ya get tired and need to go somewhere where you can get a cup of coffee, still see the streets and be able to leave in a split second.
You can't do that from a regular restaurant, you are taken inside, not a good view of the streets and you can not roll out of there as fast as you can from a donut shop and or a gas station.
One more plus, Everyone needs gas in their vehicles, what better place to find a "bad guy" then at the gas stations!!

Actually, it's only an old truth now, at least where I live. A lot of the officers these days are younger and want to stay healthier. At 300-500 calories a pop with all that nasty oil used, if you go on a daily basis, you will have a major pot belly. Maybe in other states it could still be like that, but the ones in California keep themselves in prime shape (with exceptions). But in the mid-west and South, it wouldn't surprise me if there were more out of shapers than in-shape cops.

Actually, it started over the old fashion donout shops being open 24hrs a day and the only place open late at night for the beat cops to take a dinner break. went from there to being a joke.

For the caffeine and sugar rush to keep them awake and alert while they protect us! And well, caffeine and sugar highs don't last forever before you come crashing down and have to refuel...

actually, in my town in California they are all at the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf drinking lattes and eating croissants. but then, that's California.
