If you already have one through another company for your vehicle and then you purchase another, do you have to stick with the same company for both or can you have 2 different ones??? I live in Cali. Thanks

I have never heard of "cali" as a negative connotation, but i haven't been to the east coast, nor do i know anyone from the east coast. As far as collecting on 2 policies, that isnt the case. I'm not trying to commit insurance fraud. I am currently the primary driver on a full coverage vehicle, and am on a policy with my fiance. He is the primary on another vehicle, but it only has the legal bare minimums. He has tickets so thats why he is on the less expensive vehicle, but if i were to get another full coverage vehicle, he would be primary on one of the 2 with full coverage, which would cost a lot more than me getting a seperate policy. Does this make more sense now?

Now I want to run around saying 'Cali' since all of us non-Californians are the ones with the UTTER AND COMPLETE -GALL- to use such a horrid word!

:P

Sorry. I'm a prat, I know.

Anyway, to answer your question? Yes, you can have to different policies at the same time, so long as they aren't both on the same vehicle. So you have Vehicle 1 and Vehicle 2.. VEH 1 is insured with Nationwide and VEH 2 is with Allstate. That kind of thing is perfectly fine! You might end up losing out on some discounts, like the multi-car discount.. so if you're really just wanting two seperate policies, you might see if your current company will just give you two different policies so you can keep that discount! But otherwise? No, you're fine, so long as you aren't double insuring one vehicle.

And PS: I have a Californian friend from San Diego that says he's from Cali. Some people are just idiots. Poor you. <3

Sure. You can insure two separate vehicles with two different insurance carriers, but you cannot have two policies on the same vehicle. If you use the same company you would probably qualify for a multi-vehicle discount.

Just curious. Most Californians do not abbreviate our state "Cali". It is mostly east coasters that do that because "Cali" has a derogatory connotation. Most Californians use either "Ca." or "Cal".

I suppose you could, but why would you want to? If someone had a claim against you, you couldn't collect on both policies, you can't make a profit on an accident. If you need more coverage you would up your limits, not take out a second policy.

Yes. You may, however, have trouble if you ever borrowed or rented a vehicle under your 'temporary substitute vehicle' clause on your policy. Better read up on it to make sure.
