It all depends on how YOU play and how long you've been playing. The more popular brands are Titelist, Ping, Callaway, Nike, and Taylormade in no particular order. These are just a few of the more popular brands the pros use. There are many other brands that make quality clubs, but to find the right club for you, you will need to get fitted by a club pro. Then you will have to think about price, a whole set of irons can cost up to at least $1,000. Finding the right club/s is a long process that can pay off on the course.

There is no such thing as a best type. It all depends on your personal preference. Go to a good golf store and hit several different brands on a launch monitor. The Data will tell you which ones are best for you. Only buy what you hit best....no matter the brand.

Golf club selection is a very subjective thing. Go to a sporting goods supplier that has an indoor range and demonstrator clubs and hit balls with different brands of clubs. Find a set that feels good to you and have vendor fit you with a set. I personally like Cobra and Calloway over sized clubs.

A bit more info wouldn't hurt here, irons, woods, etc... but generally I have found Titleist makes the highest of quality. I'm partial to their relative company Cobra as well.
