My daughter is three...but is 45 inches tall and 45lbs (both in the 100+ percentile for her age) she also talks very well for her age....

She is well behaved most of the time, but like most three year olds has her moments...

This morning she did fall out for a moment (and when I say a moment, it was over very quickly) but this woman said to me that "at her age she should behave better"...I just looked at her and said "she's three". The woman then went on to tell me that I had to be lying as she had heard my daughter talking the whole time and that I have to stop kidding myself and that she has to be at least five...

I just kept walking but this made me so angry, I seriously wanted to give this woman a piece of my mind and tell her to mind her own business...

How should I deal with this if it happens again?

Thanks very much...

Tell that woman to shove it and mind her own business. Your child is perfectly normal and even 5 year olds can sometimes have moments of acting out, its normal and its no one else's business. You know that there is nothing wrong with your daughter, if she speaks well and all then she's very smart, she's healthy, etc and thats all that matters. Who cares what some rude, nosy b*tch has to say?

I have both, a very little girl for her age, in the 3rd percentile (6 years, 40" tall and 33 lbs) and a very big girl in the 75th percentile, (3 years 40" and 40 lbs) people ask if they are twins quite often. I of course, state there respective ages and am often looked at as if I am nuts. I just remind these folks, that I am pretty sure I was there when they were born in a funny or sarcastic nature, depending on the type of inquiry.
It usually stops the inquiry or disbelieving/questioning looks.

omg, same happens to me. Myson is 19mo and talks in short sentences. Nobody believes me when I tell them that he's only 1 1/2. I think that those people niether don't have kids, or are jealous because there kids were never that smart then. Lol. Some kids develope quicker and are taught more. At home moms can sit around and teach there children everything, where as mothers that have to work, might not get much time to teach them or by the end of they day are just to tired to.

People are unreal! I have this same problem with my four year old son - he's very tall for his age, and looks like he's 6 or 7! Its hard enough, but he has PDD NOS (mild form of autism) and is developmentally delayed, particularly in speech. So I get dirty looks all the time when he acts up, and I'm very quick to say "he JUST turned four!"

I think you handled your situation a lot better than I would have. God, just reading this makes me angry! It was bad enough she made that first comment, but then to accuse you of lying about your daughter's age??? At the first comment, I would've walked away. At the second comment, I would've told her to mind her own f***ing business. Bravo to you for keeping your cool!

You know what? You don't have to do anything. If some silly twit chooses to think she knows better than the child's mother - either about the child's age, vocabulary, behavior or anything else - just shrug, smile, and say, "What do I know? I'm only her mother." and let it go.
If the same woman persists in annoying you, tell her, "You're absolutely right, and you are one of the few people to recognize that she's actually a midget. It was really hard to get her to quit smoking and drinking booze, but we had to do that to use the playground."
It's even better if you can say it where other people can hear and get in on the joke.

try having an autistic child lol
when my child throughs a tantrum he bangs his head off of anything and everything and if u touch him it gets worse and of course people are goin to stare and have things to say cuz they just dont know and they just dont understand

usually they feel stupid after they say something and u say hes autistic mind ur own business lol

but u did the right thing to just walk away
people have to be crazy when they stop u and say things like that so u dont want to talk to somone that crazy

The woman never should have said anything to begin with. After her first comment, I'd have told her to mind her own beeswax.

Say, "Yeah, you're right Dr. Stranger. I am lying. She's actually my 63 year old mother." Then walk away.

Just walk away. This was a stranger, why is she so important in your life?
