Thanx for all your answers unfortunalty the dog was put to sleep that night while on the table. The vet said that when she opened him up he was full of cancer and there would be no good cause to wake him up R.I.P Buster<3

Poor dog!

You would have to ask the vet. But they could be looking for tumors, an enlarged heart, or a number of other things I can think of.

I'm not entirely sure, obviously you can't ask the vet if they're in surgery but you might be able to ask an assistant or a tech if they are around, or over the phone. There's a number of things they could be looking for. Good luck with the poor doggie!

A toy stuck in his gut, esophagus or trachea? That can be chronic or it can be fatal. Usually they can find it with x-rays first.

Dogs can have heart problems. Vets can do any surgery on pets that doctors do on humans. But the pets usually don't have health insurance so it can get pretty expensive.
