I also have two males and another female, that are all being fixed, at the end of this week. My female is in heat. She IS separated at all times, from the males, and they have not, nor will they get to her. The problem I'm having now, is that both males, are not eating a whole lot, and are losing quite a bit of weight, because they are separated, from my female, and they want to get to her, which is not going to happen! I am giving both of my males Nutrical, but it's not doing much good at increasing their appetite. They were eating fine, before my female went into heat, but since then, they just don't seem too interested in food. I just wanted to know if anyone, has had a similar situation happen to them, with their dogs. What did you do, to get them to eat something, or is this normal for the males not to want food, when female is in heat? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Boy, I can't wait till the end of this week comes!

Hurricane Chik 08, that's a great suggestion, but diapers won't do any good! If the male wants to get to the female bad enough, a diaper won't stop him. That's not a chance I'm willing to take! I had a friend of mine who's female was in heat, and her male did manage to get to her and get her pregnant!

If the boys haven't been fixed, they're going to be thinking too much about the girl to think much about food.

If they haven't gotten below 5 pounds- which is about the safe weight for the operation, I understand- get them fixed too. Otherwise you might want to consider letting the boys stay with a friend until your last female is spayed.

Good luck!

The females is probably at her peak breeding point right now and the males can think of nothing much else other than breeding her. It would be better for them to be separated so they can't smell her. The urgency should pass in a few days and I'm sure they'll be eating again soon. Maybe take them on a car ride to a park and feed them there?

I am not sure about all dogs, but I know my boys(chihuahuas) are the same way when the females are in heat and I have to keep them seperated. It is just something you will have to put up with until they are fixed. Word of caution also. We took over the care of our son's min pin male a few years ago just after we had started raising chihuahuas. Of course we had him fixed right away so he couldn't get the chihuahuas pregnant. Well, guess what? The next day after he was fixed, he tied with one of our chis and she had pups 9 wk later to the day. They were definitely his pups!! Is the vet going to spay her altho she is in heat? If not, keep them seperated even after the males are fixed because sperm can live in their system for a few weeks after a nueter and they can impregnate a female.

Your options are:
1.) Fix the *****
or
2.) Fix the males
or
3.) Quit fretting and realize that they'll eat as they need to as long as food is available. What you are seeing is natural behavior. Loss of appetite and focusing of energies into breeding behavior is perfectly natural. When she goes out of season, they'll get back to their normal eating habbits.

well if the dogs are separated they might be missing eachother. but you can put them all together if you have a diaper on the dog(s) in heat.it keeps the dog from getting pregnant and you dont have to have them separated because the diaper will be there :) that will be what separates them :)it works pretty well too!
hope this helps!& i hope your dogs get better!

good, you have them separated........the thing is a dog will not starve itself forever. no need to worry, they will eat,

my dog holds out the entire day, and eats at night, because she waits for treats......but no food, no treats!! then she eats, then' she'll get a treat!

good luck
