I am Catholic, born and raised, and I tell you: it is only in the US that prayer in public school is debated this way!
In most secular countries (like the Philippines, where I am from), noone cares. And yes, people are always surprised to hear that the Philippines has no prayer in public school, yet, the Philippines is described as a deeply religious, very Catholic, and very conservative country.
HOW can this all happen? Simple: we teach our children to pray at HOME, like we SHOULD.
I did not have to step out of my house to learn to pray, and the only person who tried to institute prayer in public schools was that dictator, Ferdinand Marcos. NOONE appreciated his 'Prayer for the Nation', when he was obviously using children for his propaganda.
Why is it even an issue if a Catholic will choose the prayer? Why is it even an issue whether or not there is prayer?
What do you teach your kids?

This argument implies that Catholics are unable to honor separation of state and church. That is simply untrue.
If, and it's a HUGE if, prayer in schools were mandated, it would have to be within parameters that adhere to our constitutional laws.
I don't think it will ever pass since you cannot legislate religion.
Frankly, I don't see what the uproar is about, since anyone is allowed to pray at any time, given that many people pray silently. Even schools cannot control thought.

You sound like the paranoid Media back when JFK was running for President. "OH! We can't have a Catholic PRESIDENT!!! That'll put the POPE in charge of the US!!!!!"
I serioulsy doubt they would force everyone to pray the Rosary. Look at the prayers they had before it was made illegal. And stop being so paranoid.

The test to determine whether or not a prayer is constitutional has always been (that is prior to 1960) whether or not it is sectarian. So that wouldn't be a problem.

Was I a parent I would sue.
That's unconstitutional.
I'd tell my kids to sit out.
