you can't vista is newer than XP and won't allow you to do so.

If you computer is fairly new, some of the manufacturers provide xp drivers in their webby, download them into a CD or pocket hard disk or thumb drive, then install XP, if not you'd be stuck if your XP needs eg: network drivers...

Look at the webby first.. if there are no XP driverson it, best not to install, cos it probably was not designed with XP in mind.

Yes, you can install XP over Vista. You must back up any files that you want, because you will have to "destroy" the partition that Vista is on. Restart your computer with the XP CD in the drive. If the computer does not boot from the CD, you will need to change your BIOS settings to boot from the CD-ROM drive before the hard drive.

In Setup, you will have to tell the computer to delete the Vista partition. You may receive a warning, saying that Vista is a newer operating system. Ignore this and continue, and delete the Vista partition. Then, format the hard drive and continue with the installation.
