Well my racing friends, most people had already handed over the Nextel Cup Championship to Jeff Gordon. I've been saying all along that early season dominance doesn't mean squat when it comes to winning it all. With Jimmie Johnson ahead (when they go into the chase) and Chad Knaus' return to the 48 team does that change anyone's mind on who the favorite is now? I see Jimmie, Jeff, Tony, Carl, Kurt, Denny and Matt duking it out for the 2007 cup. Who do you think has the most momentum and can carry it through the last 10 races after next weekend? I think we might be looking at the first back to back champ since Gordon did it.

First congrats Trego on Jimmies win, theres no one better then Chad at keeping up with a changing race track.Never did I think you could mail Jeff the trophy and with the chase format the way it is,a few guys have a legitimate chance. But none better then Jimmy, because of the x-factor,or the Knaus factor if you will.It will be fun and I still like Jeff's chances, but don't rule out Smoke either. This will be fun.

I too think its too early to tell, you never know what could happen. Sometimes the bad luck just comes out of nowhere! Jimmy Johnson had a great race at California but i don't think we can say who will be the winner of the Nextel Cup just yet. I think all 12 guys have a chance, we shouldn't rule anyone out yet, the chase hasn't even started!
Go RCR!!!!
Go Jeff Burton!!!!

I would say it is too early to see who will win this year. After a couple of races, who has had their only bad race? Who is still consistent. Who expected Kurt Busch to be the first Nextel Champion? Who is having a good streak right now, and who can keep the steak up? Being hot now, means next week you might be hot, or extra cold.

when the top12 go racing the slate is clean except for the extra points each driver receives for each win during the regular season (god, this is WAY too complicated!) anyway it's anyone's championship after richmond hate to say it but the 48 clearly is in a groove right now and he and tony are VERY strong late in the year. as a burton fan i would love to see jeff hand rcr their next cup championship-fitting because earnhardt had wanted burton to come to rcr but if i really had to put my money on the line i would have to go with tony stewart hamlin may shake things up but his pitstops suck and i don't believe that truex, as a dark horse, has enough to pull it off for dei man i wish they would just let the championship run like it used to!!!!!!!

In case you aren't aware of it, no one is in front at the chase. It ain't over yet. Yeah I know, we are going to make Gordon give up all he has earned over the past year so some meathead will try to claim the cup. The chase sucks and no one can ever claim that someone who was out front by 300 some points, will now have to give the rest of the field a CHANCE to be the cup winner. Nascar brass sucks, the system sucks and Mr. Earnhart would agree that to allow this is stupid. Gordon is the champ, everybody else are wannabes. Plain and simple.

Gordon is just experimenting and playing around the last 5 or 6 races I think he will still be the champ

Something in my head keeps telling me Jeff will get the 5th, but Theres this Orange 20 that keeps me wondering, last year when I had this same feeling Jimmy won it.. I'd just want it to be close right down to the last race, I plan on going to homestead I'd love to see it go down to the last lap....

i think johnson will have some bad luck like he did last year and gordon is aging i think he will be tired the last few races and not win the chase....ford isent that good this seosen and its hard to see kenseth being a conteder same gose for edwards..it will come down to hamlin and stewart sence this is the last year they will drive cheves they want to win in them now because htey will go throw a learning curve next year....stewart and hamlin will be neck to neck till homestead were hamlin is better i think hamlin will win the chase and make JG feel sorry they are switching to toyota

It's hard to hand a championship to anyone when the points get reset during the chase.
