Nipping is a form of social play between puppies and dogs. Usually this is mainly found in puppies. I would be interested in knowing how old your dog is. None the less there are several things you can do. The key is to be consistent. Both you and anyone else that comes in contact with the dog has to be on the same page or the dog will never learn.

1. Make sure the dog is getting enough exercise. Believe it or not a lot of behavior issues with dogs is because they are not exercised much.

2. Give the majority of your attention to the dog when they are calm or preoccupied with a chew toy.

3. Avoid tug-of-war type games, any rough housing, wrestling, play slapping or vigorous petting as this will encourage the dog to nip.

4. Have at least 2 or more toys or treats in your hand before you interat withthe dog. This way when the dog starts to nip you can distract them with this toy or treat. Only give it to them when they have stopped the nipping and then reward them with a "good" and giving them the toy or treat. They will start to relate that if they are not nipping they get stuff they want.

5. You can spray your hands with a product made to deter a dog from chewing before you interact with the dog.

6. You can"freeze" and remove all attention as a consequence for nipping. You freeze the very instant the dogs mouth touches you. The key is to not pull your hand away. Of course only do this if the nipping doesn't hurt. If it is a hurtful bite you really need to re-evaluate your relationship with this dog and regain the dominance. If not, this nipping could turn more aggressive. If after two times of freezing the dog has not stopped the nipping abruptly leave the area. No one else should be with the dog. It should be left alone. After a few minutes try it again.

The key is going to make sure everyone in the house is consistent. They can't allow the nipping at all.

I do hope this helps.

The best way to train your Standard Poodle pup in how to interact and play with humans is to employ the same methods that dogs naturally understand. Biting should not be discouraged, only trained correctly. If your pup gnaws too hard, scream 'ouch' or yelp in some way. This gives the signal to the puppy that their action was too hard. Shout out something like "OWW!"
When you are just playing do not encourage biting behavior.
Encourage him to play with chew toys

Gently but firmly hit him on the nose and say No!. He'll learn that's not good. Also, if he doesn't have one get him a chew toy.
