I'm begining to understand batteries...a little.
Two cameras identical, one using lithium ion the other using AA rechargeables. The only advantage the AA has is that for quick purchase they can be had very easy. So, all things being equal the lithium is a better choice since it lasts a heck of a lot longer, right? But lithium-ion batteries don't come in the AA size , right?

They do! I just bought AA lithium batteries for my battery-consuming camera. They cost $10 for four batteries, but so far they have lived up to the advertisement of lasting 7 times longer than regular batteries. I found them at the check out lane at Safeway.

They only hold a charge a bit longer. Their main advantage is that they are smaller than NiMH rechargables (or alkalines).

However, Lithium Ions start to lose capacity (ability to hold a charge) big time at about 2 years of age, or 2-300 recharges. Most NiMH batteries last 5 years or more, and can be recharged many many hundreds of times.

To me, NiMH is better in every way except size.
