No. At the time the story was written, it was widely believed that no-one could see the face of God and live. However, the purpose of the story was to show Moses as a person who had come close to God and could therefore be relied upon to communicate God's will to the people.

Interesting question!
Since God is a Spirit and has no body parts it must be figurative.
The spirit beings can take any form they wish. Moses would have got a sense as if someone has just passed by before him.

--THAT WAS NOT GOD, but an angelic representative , which he has used over the thousands of years in dealing with mankind:
(Acts 7:30-31) “. . .“And when forty years were fulfilled, there appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Si′nai AN ANGEL (my caps) in the fiery flame of a thornbush. 31 Now when Moses saw it he marveled at the sight. But as he was approaching to investigate, Jehovah’s voice came,”
--(John 1:18) “18Â No man has seen God at any time; the only-begotten god who is in the bosom [position] with the Father is the one that has explained him.”
--THERE ARE ONLY 3 instances where God spoke directly to someone, and the all were with his Son, Christ Jesus!

The verse refers to Exodus 33 v 18 - 23
I don't think it matters whether or not it was his physical or literal back. The point of the message is that the glory of God is so awesome, so amazing, so powerful and so life-changing that he cannot reveal it all to us as we would not be able to handle it.
Many times throughout the bible, God hides his glory from us - in the burning bush, in a pillar of cloud, in a column of fire.

no, God was too bright to could be seen so God let him to see his back, because no living being could ever seen God because of that and after Moses cracked the stones, God told him that he could see the promised land from far, but he couldn't reach it...anger one of the capital sins

It's in exodus 33:17-23.... and it's a good question; because god refers to his face, his hand, and his back side... all this from a god who is supposed to be non-corporeal.

HE appeared as a burning bush according to one of the religious books. That same (GOOD) book denied him the promised land for tapping a stone one too many times.
