I was in the Navy in '01, but was discharged from basics for medical reasons, so I am not eligible for GI Bill as I only served 1 month. But while I was there, they made a big deal about how the GI Bill could now be used for you spouse and children. My father, grandfathers (x2), great grandfathers (x2), and great-great grandfather (x1-Civil War Vet) are all vets. My father went to basics the day 'Nam ended. I don't believe he used any GI benefits if he had any. Does anybody know if I'm eligible to use his benefits?

You are not eligable. In order for a service member to transfer their GI Bill benefits, they would have to get it stated in their re-enlistment contract.

you only have ten years to use the GI bill, so your fathers is out of the question. and yes you can transfer the Gi bill to immedeate family memebers. you don't qualify because 1) you didn't pay into it. and 2) you weren't on active duty for the period of 2 years consecutively, 3) you didn't recieve the proper discharge. and your father didn't recieve the purple heart or any other nationaly recognized awards from combat actions. so no you don't get it

You are not eligable unless your father was in Vietnam and got a purple heart./ Even then only in some states is that even offered. If you really wanted the G.I. Bill you should have sucked it up, it was only Navy boot camp.

To much time has elapsed the Montgomery GI Bill only allowed then years for it to be used after you were out. Appears most of your family has been out way over that.
