I've been working at Petco part time (2 days a week) for about two weeks. They put me on cash register with barely any training or help. I should've recieved alot more training than was given to me and my boss knows it. I mess up all of the time and have to frequently ask for help. It is so embarrassing for me. I requested that they transfer me into the grooming department. They are so understaffed in the retail part of the store, they wouldn't transfer me. I absolutely hate workinging in retail!

I have little time for school, my artwork, or time to rest. I really need to quit this job. It is not worth it. I really don't need the money. I would rather find a job more suited to my personality.

I have discussed my concerns with my boss. I worked yesterday, which I really didn't want to do, but my boss asked if I would. I am suppossed to work on Wednesday. I would really just like to say no and quit. I don't think I can take anymore of this!

What should I do!?

I do not need this job. I also work from home selling artwork. I thought I needed some out in the world job experience.

This job doesn't fit my personality. I'm very shy, not outgoing at all, and I really don't know how to talk to people.

I would prefer a job working directly with animals or a job in an office setting.

Thanks for everyone's advice.
I called yesterday and told them that I had to resign and couldn't come in anymore. They were really nice about it.

Do you need the job? Do you think it will be better/different somewhere else?

Why did you take the job in the first place? There is nothing wrong with saying that you made a mistake, and just quit. It's not like they can't take no for an answer. Go see if there is a position in an animal clinic. Remember you need to have training to actually help with the pets. Or maybe a dogwalker position? Could be fun.

Sounds like you should quit. You told your boss about school, and the other stuff. You may want to stress school though, and mention that your parents don't want you working right now either. Try to leave on as good as terms possible. Sounds like this guy can really pressure you, so do it over the phone and stick to your guns. If it does get nasty, then make sure if you go for another job, you don't list them as a reference.

The right thing would be to give them at least a weeks notice before you quit so they can try to hire someone else.

I know what its like to want to just quit though, if you decide to do that, don't wait til wednesday to let them know.

And don't expect them to give you a good reference when you are applying for other jobs.

Tell the boss the job just isn;'t working out for you. Find another job, then give him a timeline when you have to leave. Be polite and professional because you will need a reference.

Talk with the boss on Tuesday and tell him/her that it is just mot a good match of personality and talent and that you are not doing the store a benefit by continuing to work there.

In the words of Nike, just do it.

If you ever get asked why you quit by a future employer, explain the horrible working conditions.
