There is a family history of this in my family. I am unsure as to the beginning stages and I was wondering what to be watching for. Mothers side but not the males in the family.

Both of my grandmothers died with this disease. I'm frightened myself as I've been absentminded since I was a child. I try to do memory games and the like. As a teacher I keep great records so that helps. The website below should answer all of your questions. Good luck and God Bless.

I can't really do better than Creole did with her answer, but I will note that chronic forgetfulness is an early sign. Problem is most of us get a little forgetful as we age. Me included. I call it "Old-timer's Disease."

Keeping an active mind is one way to avoid it, but regular doctor checkups are also a good idea for those who are concerned they could get this disease. I read a lot, work at a radio station and stay engaged as much as I can. I'd prefer not to get Alzheimer's.
