I'd buy it. It is just another fun thing to add to the occasion and if you walk away with a cool prize....why not???
It is a fun way to collect some cash for the bride and groom without asking people. Nobody has to buy the raffle tickets if they dont want to.
I think it would be viewed as a little tacky by some people if you had it at the reception but for showers and such, go for it.

Selling raffle tickets at a bridal shower turns the occasion into a business. In my community, most guests bring gifts from a registry such as "Bed Bath and Beyond". These gifts usually are more appreciated than cash, and for those brides who would rather have the cash, can simply return those gifts.
If you are giving one raffle ticket to each guest for free and raffling something sentimental (such as a coupon at the restaurant where the groom proposed or an item displayed at the bridal shower), it will enhance the occasion.

That is absolutely tacky on every single level! Its one thing to play a game that guests don't have to "buy in" on or if you were doing the raffle where everybody gets a ticket for free maybe for sending their RSVPs back on time....but to charge guests for it?! Why not just hire a doorman and have a cover charge too.
Honestly...

An invitation is not a summons, and a registry not an impetus to give a gift. While a gift is never required, those who gave gifts for the earlier marriages certainly are under no obligation to give one for a later marriage. Just send a nice card to their home and attend the wedding to raise a glass to the bride and her new groom. The registry could have been more for the groom's family who has never had the chance to participate in wedding things related to him, nor gift him on his marriage. Decline the shower and attend the wedding for the fun and frivolity.

At a shower... maybe. At the reception... absolutely not!
BTW, as a guest, I NEVER buy raffle tickets at showers, weddings, graduation parties, etc. I ONLY buy stuff like this at charity fundraisers. I've already given my gift at the door, don't beg me for more.

I hope your not like this, but I have a friend who's always has those parties with the candles, makeup, shoes and after so many people buy several items she gets something free. It's the tackiest party and I never liked attending because I felt used... Don't use your guests for selfish reasons...
