James writes this:
"If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."
James 1:26-27

well, Mary and Joseph took the baby Jesus to the temple when He was little and they paid 2 doves.
They're such a sweet family. Isn't that cute?
many references to the treatment of the Holy of Holies is indeed in the bible (OT). Also Jesus often went to the temple, and would at times read scripture (as in His home town where they threw Him out and wanted to toss Him over a bluff.)
Very often, in the NT, it is assumed people are religious. Those who did not belong to the temple were "Gentiles". (Non-believers, and considered unclean. IE: unfit to enter the temple.)
